operation: friendship for newtown

y'all.

i saw this last night because i was reading casey's blog, and through her, i found this post at Sparkling Footsteps. Her message is reposted below:

Everyone has been asking "What can we do?" and "How can we help?"

I have been asking myself the same questions and came up with Operation: Friendship for Newtown

I don't know about you, but when I was little I loved making these friendship bracelets. Let this be a way to show these children that we are all thinking of them and that we are all friends.  We are going to stick with green and white for colors. These are the colors that represent Sandy Hook....

After you create the bracelet, write a little letter stating where you are from and your favorite part about living where you live. You can also include a quote from Dr. Suess if you wish :)

I would love to get as many of these from around the country (& world) as we can. These little ones will be so excited to receive something all the way from California or Colorado or Florida!

I will be opening up a P.O Box where these may be shipped. Please, please spread the word. If you are a teacher, it could be a craft project for your children. Email me with any questions you may have (:

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this idea! It will make so many children {and grown ups!} feel awesome to be able to do this as a way to send a hug of sorts, and to let Newtown know that even though we cannot take their pain away, we want to show them some lovin.

GREAT IDEA!!

I also know that many bloggers today are participating in the blogger day of silence, which I obviously did not do because I posted above about Operation: Friendship for Newtown.

However, if you are interested in donating money and/or spreading the word for that cause, here is the info:

 ______________

The money will go to an organization called The Newtown Family Youth and Family Services.

"Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.

ANY DONATIONS MADE TO NEWTOWN YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE DONATED DIRECTLY TO THOSE EFFECTED BY THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING."

Please visit THIS PAGE to make your donation.

Happy Tuesday, y'all!
