Let them drink Blenheim Ginger Ale!

Have y'all ever tried Blenheim Gingerale?
It's life altering.
And, based on our customers at Davis General Store, I'd say it's easy to get hooked.

We have people calling us to put them a case on hold.
And we have others who come in every week to buy a 6-pack.
And some people just stop by and get a single out of the cooler.
Some drink it because it's good.
Some drink it to open up their sinuses when they have a cold or allergies.
Others use it as a mixer.

It comes in:
Original Hot (pink top)
Not as Hot (gold top)
Diet (white top)

The bottling plant isn't that far from the store, so usually Anj & I make a run every few months.
Yesterday, I went by myself because hubs was tied up at work.

I drive by myself over North and South Carolina all the time, and traveling alone doesn't really bother me, but:

1) I am not a fan of drivin' hubs' truck. Its brakes aren't as sensitive. The steering feels funny, and I feel like I'm drivin' a school bus.
2) This go round we got more than normal, and as a result, it wasn't shrink wrapped on a pallet because we had to fit it in the bed of the truck without blocking the back glass.

A few disturbing images of 1200 glass bottles of ginger ale rolling all over the highway kept popping in my head.
Betta believe I was checkin' the rear view mirror every time I turned, hit a bump, hit the brakes too fast, etc, etc, etc.

But, I am happy to report that I, the truck, and all the bottles of ginger ale made it to the store safely.
And, we got it unloaded about 10 minutes before a torrential downpour hit.

You can check out the Blenheim website to find some near you.

Happy Thursday!

fresca frisk? frescalicious? fantastic frodkafruit?

don't this look good?
all citrusy and icy in this psycho hot weather normal-introduction-to-summer-weather we havin'?

 photo 87fb00fa-dfdc-41bd-be9e-a1359b66bdc8_zps6e31f5ea.jpg

the correct answer is,
"YEAH, it do!"

 photo b626df23-cd02-4fff-9a3b-99a68e6c5248_zps3090523e.jpg

it's pretty simple.
you just need:
some grapefruits
a case of fresca {oh, heeeeey, fresca, i ain't seen you since elementary school!}
a bottle of club soda
some crushed ice
some salt and/or some sugar/splenda/whatevs
a cocktail shaker
crushed ice {or cubes - shiiiit, it's yo birfday, no?}

get your cocktail shaker all pre-chilled - i recommend a stainless one, natch.
pour in vodka and some ice cubes.
add fresca & club soda.
{i am a pooh and i like more fresca than club soda, but you can start at a 1:1 ratio on the fresca/club soda and go from there ... same with the vodka ... make it as strong or weak as you like ... hell, for that matter, if you don't dig grapefruit, you could easily get down with some orange or lime slices}

shake, shake, shake
shake, shake, shake
shake yo boooooty cocktail shaker

 photo e0eade61-91d4-4e29-803d-8b34406a322f_zps347626ba.jpg

pour out onto your magical glass full of crushed {or cubed} ice

 photo untitled-4-2_zpsafe5765e.jpg

add salt.
or sugar if you are a puss.
garnish with grapefruit slices to be enjoyed post-beverage completion. mmmmm ... it's the best part. ;)

 photo untitled-3-1_zps5a9162d0.jpg

and this is how vodka, fresca and club soda lived happily ever after.

~ brought to you by someone who prefers beer and always will, but this shiz has less calories and i can't get half my shorts/pants buttoned.

bottoms up!

24 July 2012

you should drank this

I could spend a fortune on iced bevies from Starbucks, but let's be honest.

I ain't got a fortune. {And, goin to Starbucks on the daily would involve me gettin up, doin hair and face so as not to be frightening, and by the time I've done all that, **** it.} Plus, the Starbucks version leaves me feelin' a taaaad too cracked out.

So, I make this shiz at home, and you can too. The good part, is you can decide on milk type {no fatty, supa fatty, almond, whatever}, your hot chocolate mix can be sugar-free or real deal holyfield or whatever, and you can do high octane or decaf. Whateva you want, playa!!

I brew my coffee, and then mix in my Truvia and hot chocolate mix while it's hot so that all dissolves together.

I then put it all into the stainless steel shaker, which has already been in the freezer for awhile to speed up the process.

I let it sit in the shaker in the freezer for about an hour to get it nice and cool, and then I dump in however much milk I want, and shake, shake shake.

Dump it over ice.

Add bomb diggity whipped cream.

YUMMation.

Rain, Target & the Joy of Pnut Buttah

Call me a weirdo, but I love rainy night trips to Target. First of all, I have been wanting a better teasing tool for my thin, baby fine hair, especially since no matter what I do, my crown shows FULLY WHOLLY AND COMPLETELY OBVIOUSLY. No matter what. I saw this gizmo over on Pink Lou Lou's site, and I liked the idea but I am impatient, and didn't want to order online and have to wait for it, so I thought, I bet they got somethin close at good ole Tar Jay, right?

So, we needed groceries anyhoo, so off we went, in the pourin down rain. Poor Sylvia was strugglin to navigate through all that water. And she need her some new windshield wipers, Anj Davis. Wink, wink.

Anyhoo, we arrived at the Tar Jay safely, and here are some things I was especially excited about. You know, stuff you bought, but you don't feel guilty because it's not really shoppin, it's just stuff you picked up while buyin groceries.

Morning crack deliciousness
and the coffee was on sale for $6.99!!!
My sensor is a bit awkward, bless her heart and she attaches to my body on one end, but the other end of her flops away from my body, makin yankage out of my body highly likely. So, she has to be strapped down like a mental patient. The regular band-aids I've been using ain't gettin it.

we are currently in trial mode ... band-aid's still there because it hurts to take em off ... TMI? Just imagine the hotness during beach season. ;)

Movin on ....

here's the conair version of PLL's brush ... it was $5.49 at target, and I LIKES. Couldn't find it on the Target website, but you can get 'em at Walgreens, CVS, etc.

and oh how I DO love me some honeycrisp apples - to me fall = extra apple consumption

***
after we returned from our Tar Jay extravaganza, we split this bad boy because 80g of carbs is too much at one time for this sister in diabeetus.

And no, hubs can't leave well enough alone. He thinks all apples must have peanut butter - even candy ones. I have NEVER seen him just eat a friggin apple.

What a friggin weirdo.

I tried it.

It was awesome.

What it isn't realllly shopping purchases do YOU get excited about?

Sweet Fizzy Sugary Heaven

I haven't had a diet drink since Saturday.

That's FIVE DAYS.

I haven't really thought about them.

Not a lot.

I mean, sometimes at night, I start to imagine the taste. The fizziness. I can just hear the pop of the top.

Or sometimes, I think about it a lot at about 1:00. Break time.

But then, my friend at work reminded me that diet drinks triple the risk of pancreatic cancer.

And that's enough. Enough to make me focus on something else.

But - you've gotta let yourself cheat a little.

Or you'll implode.

So today, at approximately 3:25, I sent an errand boy to fetch this for me:
Yes.

It was everything I dreamed it'd be.

Nothin like the real thing.
And I felt zero guilt.

Lazy/Lame = How We Roll

So, what'd y'all do this weekend? Mine was very laid back. Laid back = my husband suggested I didn't post this because "it makes us sound lazy/lame." I told him we are lazy/lame. He said, "So true." Let's be honest, there's nothin I hate more than a fake-ass. And, not every day of your friggin life is gonna be magical. I didn't feel like doin anything really. You know how sometimes you have those weekends where you're just like, "Man, I'm sicka doin ... pretty much everything." Welp, this was one of those.

I found a new eye make up tutorial thingie on Pink Lou Lou's blog. Then, I tried it, and I took a pic because I was really excited about how it turned out, and I wanted to show y'all.

But, what I really learned is that when you take pics of your own make up...shit just looks scary. Spider eyes. Shiny. Large pores. Can't even SEE the eye shadow aka the whole point of the picture. You're welcome.

I started to crave some potato salad of the sour cream/chives/bacony variety. I looked up a mega lame recipe and then I had to doctor that mess for like 20 mins. But it turned out good in the end.

Mmm...chives.......

I was also mildly excited because we found a half decent tomato at the grocery store and it's June:
I got hungry while I was cookin the rest of our supper/foods for the Davis Reunion, so I started to get creative -

It was so good. I ate about 4 slices of tomato covered in salt & pepper and chives. Yummm!

I was so exhausted from cookin/doin nothin all day, I rewarded myself with The Real Thang:

Then it stormed real good, and the hubs and I watched The Switch (good movie - I'd watch it again at some point), while we listened to the thunder n lightnin.

Sunday, I struggled to get up after 10 hours of sleep. What is my deal?

Then, we went to the Annual Davis Reunion where I ate casseroles, biscuits, fried chicken, potatoes until I felt that I would vomit. And then I ate dessert. Then, I felt even more disgusting.

Now that I'm a Davis, I can say, "I was full as a toad."

Go ahead. Make fun. I did.

Then, I had to drink TWO Diet Mountain Dews on the way home because I was so drowsy from stuffin myself sick. Ugh.

I wished I could do this:

But, I couldn't. I had to drive.

I hope y'all had a magical weekend.

I know I feel well rested.

Just Thow it in There, Thursday

WARNING:
This post contains rambling, random re-caps and photo overload. Thank you, enjoy your stay.

I. am one sorry blogger. I haven't blogged in over a week. I know. I suck. But - I've had stuff goin' on. (Not important stuff, but stuff). So, if you are reading here today, I thank you. Thank you for not giving up on me.

Here's the excitement that has been my life and the reason for my blog neglect (Warning. It's all totally lame.):

1) I have been sleepy everyday for 3 weeks. I am trying to free myself from the hold of Diet Coke and Diet Mt. Dew. It SUCKS. So, after work, and tutoring, and draaaaaaaggin my fatness to the gym, I talk to Anj, and crawl into my heated mattress pad bed which makes my lower back stop hurting, and drift off into my coma, until I have to drag myself back out the next mornin.

2) I discovered this website and I feel that I may be a mother just like this,  A Momma's Desires and Pacifiers I don't think I can be fake long enough to be a happy, singing, khaki-and-button-down-shirt-wearin kind of mama. More like, "I am telling you NO now. And if I have to tell you this again, the answer is STILL NO, and YOU WILL get ya bottom TOE up! Do you hear me?"

3) I have been resisting the urge to drink a nice collllld Diet Mt. Dew from the vending machine which is just steps away my friends. Just a few. short. steps. (when I am at work) orrrrr a nice cold Diet Coke which is just right there IN THE FRIDGE at home.

4) I went to North Myrtle for Memorial Day and had the following experiences:

Yummy produce/homemade goods/ice cream/meats/little grill place on the way down.

Once we arrived ...

Supper that night ...

In 10 minutes, dude NEVER actually lit the cigarette.

Bike Week ...

Ticket?! Whatchu mean I was revvin' it up?

there are no words ...

Beach Music at Duck's ...

And afterward ...

Tent is CLUTCH when it comes to being on the beach for all day lonnng ... thanks Coopers!

When Anj takes pictures, it's "Go!" - no warning whatsoever.

Carolina cooler under NC State tent = CLEARLY we needed more room for our foods and bevs. Thanks Hayden! ;)
All you can eat crab legs ...

Please know that Anj Davis got his money's worth for realz. Loves him some crab legs.

Walkin around at Barefoot Landing ...

5a) Clearly, I'm a failure for having to be reminded to mention this little discovery/new love:

+

+

+
=
Straight Memorial Day/Bike Week Magic
....
or, as Lois Ellen and I so dubbed this new Heaven-In-Your-Mouth:
THE Arnold D'Andre Palmer
Drank one for me, Shuga!

6) I made chicken salad. Time consuming. A separate post.

7) I have been feeling grouchy/whiny (again) about my diabetes and being a girl and how together, I want to get a machine gun and fire away at both of them until I am back to optimal health.

8) I have been feeling guilty about not blogging.

9) Sylvia went to Brotha Man E's Car Service and got a new Fuel Assembly AND a new crank position shaft. She is so spoiled with her tantrums. I think she wrecks herself for the attention.

10) I have been thinking about how my legs aren't as shapely as they used to be.

11) After thinkin about the lack of shapeliness of my legs - and the rest of me - I feel guilty and go to the gym, where I feel angry because my Sweet Lil Buds for my ipod are faulty. I CANNOT use the HU-FRIGGIN-MONGOUS ear thingies that come with the ipod because my ear holes are notttttttttt that large. IT BLOWS MY MIND THAT ANYONE'S ARE. Anyway, I guess one of the ear buds got too sweaty and just kicked the bucket. Note to self - go buy new earbuds.

12) I have been freaking out about how snakes are for real. I have spent A LOT of time thinking about how God made snakes too. They won't hurt you unless you hurt them. What's the chance of actually seeing one? Etc. But then, I realize these are all actually falsehoods. And - my aunt sent me this in an email and I am still seeing the images flash vividly in my mind at random points throughout the day:

Look who tried to come up in here today. He was not even a foot away from my shoe & tried to come in when I opened the door to see why the dogs were having a fit.

Then, FIVE DAYS LATER, she sent me this in an email:

Guess his widow came looking for him.

WHAT. THE. DEUCE. FRANDS? EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

13) I've been dreaming of going to Texas. And boots. And cowboys. And Junk Gypsies. And Lauren M. M. B. C. (in true southern form, she has five names - only married once, though. ;) )

14) I've been missin the Shimmer Lotion that Jergens used to make. It didn't cost an arm and a leg and it helped make your legs look yummy and toned. Jergens - Why?! Why?! WHY?!

15) I have spent a total of ~ 8 hours at Verizon. In two days. But I got this, which I am still learnin about. I am not tech savvy.

16) I have been working with fellow in-laws and hubs to plan a fish fry at Ma and Pa Davis's. My task: potato salad.

17) I have been reading trash like People magazine and thinking how flippin' HIDEOUS Kim Kardashian's ring is. Who knew she had a boyfriend? Why are they even famous? Are they divorced yet?

18) I have been spending a lot of time being jealous of people born with beautiful thick hair. Then I remember that I even have hair, which is enough to be grateful for. And I shut the front door.

19) Wondering - how do omens/good signs start? I think they run rampant in the south. Mama is whacked out because she saw a dead red bird. I told her not to worry, I once murdered one with my friend's truck, and the bird's corpse rode quite a ways down 49 in the grill. Nothin bad happened. Good actually. I met my hubs after a ROUCH one year+ of jackwagons. However, I heard an owl several weeks ago. On two different nights. Somebody did die. Thankfully, it was just Osama's dumbass.

20) Trend Alert: My mama went to the dentist this week, and was readin Redbook in the waiting area, and learned that some sneaky researchers secretly determined what men search for on the internet regarding the lady folk, and the study found that men look most for middle aged women who are curvaceous and have somethin to hold onto. So, in my mama's words, "Young skinny b*****s are out and middle-aged women with some meat on 'em are in!" REJOICE! Good knews, because I know I got some parts that just are what they are no matter how long I'm at the gym or how many biscuits I resist. Whoop! Whoop!

I am ashamed to say that by the end of this post, I have in fact, opened a delicious, cold, beverage of the Diet Mountain Dew variety. And let me just say, the can is so cold, I cannot hold it without a koozie. The DMD is icy, refreshing, and like glitter in my veins. I am not proud of myself, for I have fallen off the wagon. Tomorrow is another day.
