FALL-I-FICATION

Welp, we had our first legit "cool" day. Break out the hoodies! Throw some chili in the pot! Yessir, enjoy it while it lasts! It'll be 80° next week.

Because I love you, I'm posting some high quality phone pics, complete with awkward faces, evidence of how good Anj's chili is was and general blur.
Did you see the dancing skeleton? He is gettin' his groove on in the "art hole" for the time being.
He kinda brightens my day.
Also, you may have noticed that I was excited to get to use my Goodwill afghan.

Also, here are a few recent pieces that are up on the Facebook page.
I need an Etsy shop. I am procrastinating.
Tell me it's amazing and user friendly and super easy and I am just being silly.

Also, we met "the dog" in real life.
I shall not post a photo until he legit lives here.
I may have an issue with the fear of things falling through.
But - I already picked out the perfect name for him.
You just wait.

I am off to have a few swigs of Diet Coke before bed.
My caffeine/diet drink addiction is in full swing.
It is so hard for me.
I wish I loved water.

Toodles.

Oh, oh. Also, there's this new pic at the bottom of the home page of my blog:

IF LOVING COOL WEATHER IS WRONG, I DON'T WANNA BE RIGHT

I know some of y'all shugpies love summer - and I like it just fine - for about a month.
And around these parts, it has rained seriously almost every dang day.
So, I'm like, who wants to sweat in the rain?
And I'm really, really over the mosquitoes.

So, I say ...
Brang it, FALL!

Hot chocolate, scarves, boots, thick socks, not sweating, football, Halloween, fall decorating, not sweating, yummy Thanksgiving treats, fall leaves in the mountains, not sweating, chambray shirts, sweaters ... just to name a few.

Beyond excited.
Let the countdown begin.
Until then, I can live vicariously through Pinterest.
*all images pinned from my account... fingers crossed that I'll figure out the embedding soon ... way to make it complicated, Pinterest!

one reason i'm ready for fall: mustard skinnies

So honestly, after one good trip to the beach, and after the Fourth of July is over,
and after I sweat and sweat at the store,
and after one ferocious sunburn,
I'm pretty much over summer and ready for fall.

And, on Saturday, in addition to eating a delicious gluten free pancake, and getting to hang out with my fabulous cousin and her mini-her shugpie, I scored some awesome mustard skinnies while we were out thrifting ...
for $9.76! Holla.

They look similar to these:

I stalked Pinterest and found these options.
Now I'm even more excited!

I will most likely be wearing mine with boots, and not cute flats or heels because of my donk.
Sigh.

PS - Why can't I embed images from Pinterest anymore?
I mean, when I click "embed" from the image, it asks me to embed the Pinterest widget and shiz.
No, Pinterest! That is not what I want to do! I just want to embed the image itself!
I have no intention of stealing anybody's photo credit, so I really hate that you can't just embed like you used to be able to, where clicking the images lead directly to the pin. Am I missing something?
Since I'm clueless, I'll tell y'all that I pinned all these images, so their original sources can be found on my Pinterest board.

Have a fabtabulous Tuesdays, shugs.

baller weekend: eat, sleep, knit, visit

my weekend was snuggly and cozy, but busy at the same time.

my bro and his shugpie, boegerlicious came to visit.
we visited the store and Big Silas, ate some of Anj's bomb chili, and hit up target for some glitter nail polish and hot chocolate.

2-2

the next mornin, we got up at the ass crack, and hit up a lil in-and-out nook for breakfast. you know, the kind where you go in, order, get your grub and sit down. no waitress, just eat and leave. everything's served in wax paper and white paper bags, and you have your choice of magical soft drinks - can or bottle - the kind of place where hunters go for breakfast before headin to the stands.
anj was on cloud nine with his livermush sandwich and cherry lime sundrop.

since we got up at the ass crack, some of us caught a lil nap on the way to the mountains ...

3-1

our first pit stop was in saluda, where a man bout talked our ears offfffff. omg. we stopped at M. A. Pace General Store as well. cute lil historic general store. if you're ever in saluda, gotta stop there. we got some goodies:

we ended up in hendersonville, where we visited a lovely lil history museum which is in the old courthouse, and visited several antique shops and mountain stores. then we tore up a delicious lunch at Mike's on Main, which is in the old Justus Pharmacy est. 1882
{grilled pimento cheese, ohmagyahhh!!! -
no pics of that, too busy eatin it. but, here's a pic of the inside thanks to their website}:

9

kept goin til we were around chimney rock/lake lure - bought some apples and cheese, ate some ice cream, ventured down to the riverwalk. {was mad as fire that i left my dang memory card for my camera at home!!! but, it was sort of nice because i could just enjoy the day without documenting everything} did snap a phone pic of this creepy mountain mama:

1-2

between gettin up early, bein in the car, ridin all over western nc, and eatin tons of deliciousness, we were tired when we got back.
poor anj has the nose funk, too. :(

4-1

after some nappage, we got our asian cuisine on, and ended up at michael's for some knitting supplies.

sunday, i woke up to the smell of delicious sausage.
and eggs with cheese.
and hand shredded hash browns.
and toast.
and juice.
worrrrrrrrrrrd.

the rest of sunday was spent in a 3 hour nap or doin this:

5-2
it was a good weekend.
hope y'all's was too!

26 October 2012

it's fall! let's get our deco-rate on!!

After yesterday's wreath craftin extravaganza, I was feelin inspired to get full blown with the fall madness.
All with stuff we already had!
Whoop! Whoop!
I just stayed in the same color scheme and wanted a dab of scurry, but mostly fallish. I'm not big on glitter and crinoline and such.
I like a more neutral approach.
You can basically collect anything you've got layin around that's in your choice of a fall color scheme and tie it together with some black and some candles.
Mmmmm.

Comfy chair:

Now, if it would just dip below 70 outside.

Happy Weekend!

easy, cheap burlap wreath!!

I knew easy and cheap would get y'all's attention.

Who doesn't love a good fall wreath?
Know what I love more?
One that I can make from mess I got layin' around the house {mostly - with a lil help from Big Silas' store}

What I used:
* burlap sacks {I used two great big ones} ... you could also buy a roll of burlap fabric
* a wire hanger
* old white shower curtain I accidentally shrunk in the wash
* vintage apron that had a stain on it anyway
* scissors
* needle nose pliers {to help bend the wire}

__________

Unwind your rack hanger {just for you Anj} because you will use it to "stitch" through the burlap

Since I used a burlap bag, I cut the three closed edges off to get rid of the seams and to make it two "sheets" of fabric

Then I cut strips vertically {about 4" wide}

__________

Next, you will "stitch" the hanger through the burlap, it just pokes through really easily like a needle.
I've shown two different "ways" below. If you stitch close to the center, your wreath will not lay as flat against your door, which is fine if your method of hanging will support it without the wreath popping off.

Since my hook is sort of small {and stays on the door year round}, I wanted less fabric on the back side of the wreath so that it would be flatter against my door and not pop off every time we shut the door.
So, I stitched about an inch from one edge of the fabric, rather than in the center like in the picture above.

Regardless of which way you go, you just wanna fold your burlap back and forth like a ribbon and just thread the hanger through each time.

__________

To be honest, when I started, I wasn't sure how it would look or what I'd want to add to make it more interesting. I knew I didn't want to get super fall with it, because I wanted to be able to make some simple changes later to make it more suitable for Christmas.

With burlap alone, and, with closing the hanger up to make a smaller circle than I originally planned, I still had a lot of leftover wire exposed and it looked mayjahly ghetto.

So ... this is where I decided to shred pieces of an old shower curtain I accidentally shrunk in the wash. {Oops}
I would get them started with scissors, and then tear them the rest of the way to get the edges to look rough and worn instead of scissor-cut.

{These strips are about 3" x 10"}

Then I just tied them onto the wire in a knot. {Some were tied between the separate strips of burlap, while some where mixed into a strip of burlap ... just put em in however you like until it's as full as you like.}

Finally, for the "fall" aspect, I decided to use the apron I mentioned earlier because it was orange and white {and vintage!!!}
I did the same thing - {three} 3" x 10" strips.
I tied two of the strips into bows and then just knotted the third strip underneath the bows so that I had a little hanging down.

__________

To finish it off, I just used the needle nose pliers to hook the two wire ends into each other, and then just wrapped and wrapped around any excess wire {because I didn't have wire cutters and I'm too cheap to go buy some.}
__________

Here's the finished product
{I debated cutting the stringy parts off, but I was too lazy to cut them off and I already uploaded this pic think I kinda like it.}

Also, the pic is taken hangin from our mantle instead of on our door because I look too haggard to be outside on the porch takin photos.

{in this pic, the white ribbons look sort of clustered, but when I hung it on the door, I just adjusted the white ribbons and twisted the burlap a bit until I was satisfied}

Hope the hubs digs it when he gets home cause it's here to stay and he tends to be picky about such things.

To make for a more magical crafting experience, I recommend consuming these bomb ass gluten free chocolate chip cookies {Harris Teeter} and listening to Chatham County Line while you work.

;)

Happy Fall Wreathin, Shugpies!
