Say What, Now?: The Accent Vlog

A few posts back, the lovely Raven from A Momma's Desires and Pacifiers commented on my Anti-gluten post. I had to laugh when she was talkin about how awful diet 'POP' is for you:

Diet pop=poison absolutely!!

Pop?! (My little shug pie Boeger from Michigan says Pop too!) How precious! And I got to thinkin ... I have to admit, one of my favorite things about watching other people's vlogs is to see how they talk. Not just their accents, but their word choice. I am from North Carolina, but have lived briefly in VA and in SC. I must say, when we moved to Lynchburg, VA from rural, small town, Roxboro, NC, I got made fun of A LOT for the way I talked - well, mainly by this one kid named Richard. He was not nice. His favorite thing was to trick me into sayin "quarter" because it came out like "quartah". Jerk. Don't worry. I am over it now. I like my voice and the way I talk. So, there.

Anyhoo -  I have been tryin to get up the nerve to "vlog" - so I figure, why not try this little dialect vlog project out? (Especially since I have more zits right now than I've had literally ever, and I'm goin' off two hours of sleep - thank you Mucinex D for the "lay awake and stare at the wall and listen to your heartbeat" effect.) I have avoided 'vlogging' because I imagined I would feel completely ridiculous. And, I did, but here it is.
I am actually writing this on Sunday night - but will not post until tomorrow for the following reasons:

1) The hubs will be at work and I will be here by myself and hopefully feel less dumb while making "the vlog".

2) I'll need a gazillion tries I'm sure to get it right done at all. Then I'll need another ten days for it to upload to Youtube.

3) I don't have on any make up and my hair looks like shiz-natti, and at least tomorrow, I'll put some on and fix my hair, and cross my fingers. It's bound to be better than what I'm workin wit right now.

4) I feel silly already. But, it's high time to get over it. Lord knows I've seen other people online lookin farrrrrrr more stupid talkin about stuff that I wouldn't dream of tellin people about or assumin that they give a flyin rat's anus about.

PS - here's the "script" - I came across this on Bluegrass Belle, though many people have done it before.

"The words":
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both (Hey Cori!), Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

"The questions":
* What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
* What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
* What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
* What do you call gym shoes?
* What do you say to address a group of people?
* What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
* What do you call your grandparents?
* What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
* What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
* What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
So, here it is. Hate it or love it. At least it's over. Now I can cross "vlog" off my bucket list.

1) I say some combination of "Ummm" and "Ahhhh" a lot. Sorry.
2) Due to inexperience and the fact that I didn't want to do this over, there is a lot of the the room in the background.
3) The speed of the audio and the movement of my lips doesn't match perfectly. Aggra-va-tin!!!
4) My favorite is the awesome facial expression that is frozen in time before the video starts. Oh! And - the apparent Spotted Skin Disease. Nice:

Happy Monday!

OMG! That is sooo mighty courageous! Just...fyi..when I was in broadcast school, our voice and diction coach trained us in what was considered a 'mid-western' dialect. In theory, mid-westerner's have No dialect and No oddities in their speech!

Enjoyed the video. Oh, and I always thought that when it is raining and the sun is shining that that is when the devil is beating his wife. You've never heard that?? LoL!

haha Beth I loved this! and loved your comment about me saying "pop." I have relatives who live in Texas and they would always call it "soda" and we were like "no, it's pop!" and they were like "no, its soda!"

so funny. You have the cutest accent!!
