yummy pesto

Over the weekend, hubs & I Anj made pesto while I watched and taste-tested.
The recipe was from Southern Living.

I'll tell y'all, the pesto turned out salty as helllll. But, 1) who sits around eatin' pesto straight up? and 2) we are thinkin' it's because we used the shakable parmesan from the green container (salty on its own) instead of fresh parmesan.

However - once we added about 1/2 c. of walnuts (per a different recipe suggestion), and mixed it in with our {gluten free} noodles, it was perfect.

I opted to add some leftover baked chicken breast to mine.
De-lishhhhhhh!!! ohmagyahhhh.

We spent the rest of the evening enjoying our bevies and listening to the rain.
{Have you gluten-free shug pies tried New Planet? I love their Pale Ale. Hubs likes pale ales and he gave it a thumbs up. They also have a blonde ale, a raspberry ale, and a few others. I got mine at Earth Fare.}

Before bed, I wanted me a lil Diet Coke night cap. {That sounds like a problem, no?} And, I decided to add me a lil lime in there. The jury's still out on that one ...
Anj was like, "Diet Coke with lime? Isn't that a thing?"
Yep, it is. And like I said, I just haven't decided ... I think Diet Coke should stand alone {except the occasional cherry add in}.

Cheers to a good rest of the week!

weekend

we celebrated our anniversary this weekend.
if you know us, you know i hate to dress up, and i think fancy dinners are stuffy and dull.
to those of you who love that kinda thing, party on.

8 - plain tart with strawberries, pineapples, almonds & walnuts
9 - a gluten free pancake!

our weekend was hotdogs, burgers with bacon, onion ring & pimento cheese, cheerwine, diet coke, red bridge, guinness, the annoying sound of kids throwing a basketball at a sports bar, blue moon, menstrual emotional flare ups, coffee, huevos rancheros, a long nap, a sunday drive,
knowing with 10000% certainty that i married a damn good one.

ps - charlotte peeps, have y'all seen the new "back in only" parking spaces around central avenue?
maybe i been livin under a rock, but my mind is blown.

After my caffeine surge, I decided to organize our closet.
We'll see how many days this lasts.
We can now stand on the actual floor while we're in the closet, rather than atop a big pile of shoes.

Y'all already know how much I love this movie, and how I decorate my planner like a high schooler.
Welp, I saw Truvy and Clairee in a magazine. Duh, I cut it out and put it ....
in my planner.
It was clearly meant to be.

wend1

Caught up on Banshee, part of which was filmed at the store .

banshee

I was surprised to see that the store does make several appearances in the show.
{You can see the store @ about :11 in the trailer below - omg, get excited!}

In preparation for our two-hour viewing, I made myself my version of a wine spritzer.
And I made it in my redneck wine glass.
I tried to like wine for real, and straight up, but .... my taste buds just weren't a fan.

winecollage

I should mention that we don't in fact have Cinemax,
so we watched the bootleg version.
Kids, this is called a VHS tape.

wend11

Our weekend also involved cheesy grits with bacon, eggs and yummy coffee with spray whip.

wend8

And apple raisin salad. Yumm.

wend7

We got our walk on.

wend13

Did a little catchin' up on some rest.

Watched some basketball/football & drank some bevies.

Sooo, y'all know Alexa over at Southern Living, Our Way?
Well, she lives like ten minutes away. So, duh, we decided we should meet up. I made a good first impression by talking about tits via text before meeting up for lunch. Yep, definitely meant tots.
Neither of us took any pictures. Are we the worst bloggers ever or what?
Turns out we both went through some crazy I-got-married-and-now-I-wanna-legally-change-my-name-like-at-the-courthouse-and-shit drama. If you are a chick who goes by your middle name and you wanna drop your first one, good luck with that shit. Alexa kept 'em all, added one in, and even did some creative rearranging with her name, y'all.  I just sold a kidney and paid off Congress to get rid of my first name altogether. We both talked 900 miles a minute about marriage, ending up in Charlotte, people who refuse to call you by your damn name and why alcohol is just sometimes not enough.
If you don't know her yet, you should.
Here's a preview:
alexa
Told ya. Now run on over there and say hey.

I wore my new boots to lunch today, and while we were out, I had three compliments on them, one of which involved a chick comin' over, sittin' down beside us and askin' me where the boots came from {Dillard's}, were they real leather {umm, yeah, think so}, how much were they {on sale for $99},
and could she touch em {sure}?
So, I thought, hell, I will tell the worrrrrrrrrld all about 'em.
People at Dillard's are sneaky though, because they were only displayin' the dark brown ones. Shame.
And the link I found has every color known to man except this one, but it's the best I could do, shugs.

1 - After I got home & filled hubs' head with all the deliciousness of my bloggy-friend-meet up, we decided to make a small dent in all the shiz we ate all weekend. Couples who workout in red pants together, stay together.
2 - Turns out the southern states aren't the only ones producing rednecks.
PS, dude had factory tires on his "lifted" truck. #smallpeniscomplex
3 - Saw this shugpie and his friend while we were out.
4 - Football absorption resumed immediately upon our return.
Anybody wanna buy us a new TV?

I hope you ladies had a magical weekend!

16 December 2012

life lately - some pics

first of all - this here blog is in love with her new face!
all thanks to miss andrea!
{and to miss alexa, for sending me her way}
didn't she do a fabtabulous job?!
it's like fresh white paper and perfectly sharpened pencils on the first day of school!!
go check them out!
Oh - annnnd, the blog has a facebook page now! Please do holla!
________

well.
friday, i went to the mall.
may i just mention that i would rather scrub toilets?
i got way too hot, way too irritated, and way too hungry -
and ended up grubbin in my car in the chicfila parkin lot.
and i only got two things marked off my list.

Photobucket

did get the christmas cards mailed out.
whoop! whoop!

day8

we consumed some crack from starbucks.
i don't think they can ever, ever top the pumpkin spice latte.
i just don't.

Photobucket

discovered the most awesome thing everrrrrrrr.
maybe they have been around, but i ain't seen em.
diet mt. dew IN A CAN ... a 24 OUNCE CAN!
ta.
dow!
i hate soft drinks out of a bottle. they get hotter and flatter, faster.

Photobucket

our gingerbread man has become like a real deal holyfield christmas guest.
like elf on the shelf, except he don't do a damn thing except take up too much space.
look at his over-caffeinated smile and crazed eyes.
but his rick rack and cheeks are so cute!! and, i'm a sucker for tiny polka dots, so he gets to stay.

Photobucket

we ate yummy food & opened some christmas presents at meemaw's house.

Photobucket

we shopped some more and got a disturbing, yet hilarious peek into the sex lives of deer.
this would be a great gag gift for some dude's bachelor party, no?
please, read the bullets below. hilar.
receptive posture? submissive ears? rear leg accepts what?

day15

went a lil cray cray while buying stocking stuffers and decided to treat myself to this 1 lb. bag of dubble bubble. what, what.

day17

wrapped some prizes.
{go here and make your to/from tags out of old christmas cards so you don't have to put on a bra and run to walgreen's when you've run out.}

Photobucket

i made some of these treats for some shugpies in my family.
i may have also eaten exactly four of them, and then paid the consequences of gluten consumption.
but it was still worth it.

Photobucket

i have also been thinking a lot about the victims in Newtown, CT and their families.
i don't have children, but i used to teach elementary school, and i just cannot begin to imagine living through something like that.
may God be with them during this time, and may he help those who are mentally ill to get the help that they clearly, desperately need.
i must say, i am ashamed of our media, however. reporting what happened so that we can be informed and pray for those victims was absolutely appropriate.
however, i think that flooding the networks for days on end, and requesting "interviews" from 7 year olds and their families about the absolute horrors that they witnessed that day is absolutely inappropriate. they are {perhaps inadvertently} making the individual who committed these heinous acts a celebrity.
there is a fine line between reporting what happened, and digging too deeply into people who are in great pain, and making a legend out of a murderer for the sake of ratings.
maybe these things wouldn't be quite so prevalent if legends weren't made out of people who shoot up school buildings.
i'm choosing to remember the victims.

christmas festivities and some longhorns

thanks for hangin' tight last week while i did three link ups/scheduled posts in a row.
i was out of town, here, there, and everywhere -
eating too much.
not sleeping enough.
walking all over malls and shops.
ruining christmas cookies. {who knew the decorations would keep them from baking correctly. whaaaa?!}
